About us

Now in our 3rd year we will again be holding the Parish 5k on Bank Holiday Sunday 25th May at  2pm (ish) start following previous years successes.

Last year saw our biggest entry so far, and we are hoping to beat that this year. Both years have seen the same winners, (and still Parish record holders), in the men’s and women’s class in Joe Jamie and Cerys Linning, with times of 21.12 and 32.04 respectively.

Who can knock them off the title this year?

Who we are raising for?

As with previous years, any proceeds go to Parish Council funds to help improve our local amenities and facilities. What we raise goes directly back into the community. Last year we raised nearly £2000 that met our required contribution to fund a dedicated Community Support Officer and vehicle patrol unit to assist in combating rural crime. We are now part of a collective of 7 local Parishes all of whom have contributed and enjoy the benefit of this enhanced offering. Im sure by the time May comes around, we will have identified our next project to fund.

Age Categories

Following previous years’ experience it is obvious we have our highly competitive ‘athletes’ and those who are happy to partake simply as a fun runner.

It can get complex staggering start times for different age groups, in order to avoid potential bottlenecks en route, to then have to do the maths on the finish line to find their real times. We will still have U10s, U17s, 17-40 , >40s, >50s , >60s and > 70s but we are asking on the Admission form to state if you are competitive or not.

This just means that those who are competitive will be issued the 1st batch of numbers and 1st on the start line to avoid any initial congestion. All other runners will follow immediately after followed by walkers. By declaring yourself as non-competitive it doesn’t mean you’re out the running for prizes- as we saw last year in the ladies over 40 class whereby the “fun-running” winner managed to overtake all her piers taking it seriously!

Admission

Following huge positive feedback from previous years, we will be charging to participate, but its only £5 per person and 12 or under go free. Please click on the “Admission” tab above to register your entrants. You are asked to make payment on the day when collecting your bib. On registration you will be automatically added to our DB for further comms.

We positively welcome your prized pooches as long as they don’t attack any other entrants- canine or human! As with last year, we also have a cutest dog competition.

Prizes

Those who have previously competed will know prizes are not to be sniffed at.

Not only the much coveted silver wear and Parish title holder bragging rights, but also bottles of Tattinger for over 18s male and female class winners and John Lewis vouchers for U17s and U12s, all made possible through our sponsors generosity. All entrants will also receive a participation medal courtesy of our very own Jeff Martin.

The Wheatsheaf

Tosh and Sarah are our hosts for the day and will be providing Live entertainment after the event into the evening, and hopefully a bonfire if we ask them nicely.

Pizza and burgers will also be on offer also as well as a late bar into the Bank Holiday evening so please expect a late one with some poor dancing, lots of drinking and the usual Wheatsheaf hospitality and festivities.

What are you waiting for?

Complete your registration and you will be emailed nearer the event. You will be issued your bib on the day. Simple as that!
